Resolution II, a continuation to Resolution I, is a pay-to-play online fundraiser tournament that will boast prizes and perks for the three contenders that come out on top.

The fundraiser aspect of this tournament has a world of meaning behind it.

New Leaf eSports debuted as a small group in July 2019, when we ran our very first offline tournament, Embrace the Change. We were motivated to make a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe LAN tournament a reality because of our desire to meet the people we’ve befriended through our competitive community throughout the years. The fees for the tournament were covered out of pocket upon booking, with the hope we would pay it back from entry fees.

The community made it happen — the earnings from the tournament’s entry fees covered venue costs, and we ran a successful one-day tournament that created memories. We also gave back to our local community by donating proceeds from the tournament’s merchandise to Mind UK, a mental health charity.

We want to continue these types of events and run a bigger and better tournament as part of New Leaf eSport’s New Years resolution. We’re planning another offline tournament, Embrace II, in April 2020. This time, it’ll be a two-day tournament with a focus on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe but a couple of side brackets and games to play. However, as you know, our offline tournaments are made possible by the community. This is the very purpose of this online tournament, Resolution II — we’re aiming to fund our next offline tournament as well as provide adrenaline rushes for our players.

Resolution II is a 1v1 free for all tournament. Players will battle it out in a single elimination style bracket and play 12 races each round. Each player will ban the entire room from playing two tracks for the entire round, different from Resolution I.

50% of the total entry fees from this tournament will go towards funding Embrace II. The other 50% will be thrown into a cash pot and will be divided as follows for the top 3 winners:

1st: 50% of the cash pot
2nd: 30% of the cash pot
3rd: 20% of the cash pot
